ON DURABILITY OF STEEL FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE

During the last few years, many efforts have been devoted to better understand the mechanical behaviour of Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) with particular reference to its toughness. As a result, the domain of utilisation of SFRCs is progressively growing also in the field of structural elements. In particular, recent studies have shown that it is possible to efficiently substitute the shear reinforcement by using steel fibres in pavements and in prefabricated roof elements. As a consequence, there is a increasing need to better understand the SFRCs behaviour under environmental actions.In the present work, durability of two types of SFRCs is investigated with particular reference to freeze-thaw resistance with and without de-icing salts, carbonation resistance, chloride and oxygen permeability. Fracture tests to determine the fracture toughness and the post-cracking constitutive law were also performed.
