CAN ERGONOMICS (AND INVESTMENTS IN HEALTH AND SAFETY) BE USEFUL IN SUSTAINING A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE?

This work evaluates the impact of ergonomics (and investments in health and safety) on corporate performance. Porter's national competitive advantage framework is used to show conditions already in place encourage Quebec firms to invest in ergonomics, health and safety. Then Porter's value chain model, the systems approach and the value-added activity concept are employed to show how an organization can improve profitability and competitive position through ergonomics, health and safety innovations and improvements.
