Economical Production of Seamless Tubes

The KOCKS 3-roll technology for tube production is represented by the Stretch Reducing Block [SRB]. The evolution of 3-roll stands is shown in Fig.1 featuring: 1. three drive shafts per stand and "Star Drive" for high permissible torque / rolling forces and "One Pass Family" rolling; 2. Radial roll adjustment for "Free-Size" rolling; 3. Quick roll change in the workshop for "Chance Free" rolling. The SRB is the combination of stretch reducing and precision sizing section, both integrated in one machine and offers the whole range of technical and economical advantages. So far KOCKS has built more than 150 3-roll blocks and more than 25 operating with three input drive shafts per stand. The annual capacity of these mills incorporating 3-roll block design and using stands with three input drive shafts amounted at the end of 2004 to approx. 11 million tons per year, and is increasing rapidly because the design and technology perfectly meets the requirements of modern mills: 1. reliable and consistent production of high quality (tolerances, surfaces, metallurgical properties); 2. high flexibility (any size and grade at any time); 3. best operational economy (maximum yield, high mill utilization, reduced roll costs). The improved product quality and reduced conversion costs enable the producer to increase market share and to optimize the profit.
