Rub resistance is one of the most important properties of inks. Waxes are used in printing inks to improve this parameter. Having the proper rab and scratch resistance in a printed film depends on particle size of wax. Besides that the type of wax based on being dispersion or emulsion will affect on the surface morphology Also using wax as an additive in a printing ink will decrease the gloss of printed matter. So sometimes an ink needs to improve its abrasion resistance while not to decrease its gloss. Abrasion resistance of printing inks especially Gravure and Flexo due to their thin thickness is very important. Besides that the optical properties of these inks specially while using for packaging are very valuable. In this study the effects of different waxes (mieronised, dispersion and emulsion) on rub resistance, optical properties and coefficient of friction (COF) on a flexo ink was investigated. Also dimethylsiloxane and the same mieronised wax were used in a gravure varnish and its optical properties specially gloss and some mechanical properties like rab resistance and COF were studied.
