Different surface analysis tools were utilized to quantify a conductive polymer coating on different materials. These tools demonstrate that the coating is selective to die-electric materials, is continuous over both resin and glass, and provides consistent coverage even as via diameters go down. XPS was able to quantify a difference in the conductive polymer film on polyimide versus epoxy resin and provide a means to measure improvements in the coating process. These tools will provide a method to quantify improved performance in conductive polymer processes needed to metallize today's complex PCBs.
