摘要

There exist many techniques to optimize reactive power in the electrical systems and reduce cost of providing electricity to the consumer. In this paper, a simplistic algorithm for reactive power capacity calculation in electric distribution system is presented. Various loads of similar reactive power requirement are categorized and their demand factor is selected in a way that it has engineering justifications. The proposed software works on principle of reactive power fulfillment at low voltage level, which substantially reduces cost of electricity and increases electrical system efficiency. It allows commercial and industrial consumers to save appreciably on their electric utility bill. This work is augmented by application software, which takes a few inputs and produces commonly required distribution systems parameters. Application of this work helps user in computing reactive power requirements, system KVA (size of transformer) and cost of compensation. Another feature of this system is the facility to predict poor reactive power management in the system. The technique also calculates the payback period for the recommended compensation capacity.
