Raising the Bar: Micro Systems Technology Catapulting Olympic and Elite Sport to a New Level

Following Australia's success at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, the Australian Institute of Sport, Australia's peak body in elite sport, approached the Australian Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Micro Technology with a view to creating new activity monitoring instrumentation designed specifically for elite sport. The impetus coming from a need to monitor sports performance in the field during training and competition and to make this possible the technology needed to be mobile, small, lightweight and "non-invasive" on the athlete's performance.
