The study of transient diffusion has a variety of applications such as in semiconductor device manufacturing, active solid state processes, metal treatment, coating processes, metal fusion bonding, superconducting technology, etching a substrate, optical waveguides, gas separation processes, bleaching, dyeing and chemical modification of textiles and fiber, electrolysis, simultaneous diffusion and reaction catalytic, heterogeneous and homogeneous reactions, both traditional and novel separation methods, transport in living cells, oxygen and solute transfer in tissues, dispersal of pollutants etc.
