In EAF steelmaking, carbon is injected into the slag to induce foaming, which provides remarkable improvements in energy efficiency, decreased noise and electrode consumption. To find the optimum conditions for injection of carbon and other chemical fuels into slags, reaction kinetics between carbon and slags have been studied by the authors. When carbon is injected into slags, gas bubbles will be formed around the particles of carbon. Here are two reaction interfaces: one is the carbon gas interface and the other is the slag-gas interface. Obviously, the reaction equilibrium can not be reached at both interfaces. Hence the partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the gas bubble is somewhere between the two equilibrium partial pressures of the reactions gas-slag
