摘要

Global wheat production reached record levels of over 600 million tonnes in 2004 and wheat trade has increased to just over 100 million tonnes over the last ten years. Traditionally, five major producing regions have accounted for over 80% of that trade: the United States, Canada, European Union, Australia and Argentina. Recently, exporters such as Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and India have increased their market share. World trade in wheat is likely to increase because wheat is a flexible and highly desirable food ingredient, and will become a greater part of the diet of developing countries as they improve their economies.
