Georgia experiences a significant lack of energy resources and the country is basically oriented to the import. Therefore, the problem of energy storage and creation of reserves is an urgent problem. Creation of such reservoirs undoubtedly will be connected with implementation of those big projects which provide for the construction of major gas pipelines on the territory of Georgia-with the capacity of approximately 50-60 bcm. The article reviews in detail the tectonic division of Georgian territory, geographic locations of the areas allocated for underground gas storage (UGS) facilities and their lithological and structural features and peculiarities.
