摘要

The continuous quest for more efficient DC-DC conversion has prompted the MOSFET industry to develop products with ever-decreasing on-resistance and minimal gate charge. All design efforts have now to be directed towards package optimization if the silicon improvements are to be more effective. The newly developed PowerSO-8™ coupled with the latest STripFET Ⅲ series can represent a real contribution to boosting efficiency and increasing power density. This paper describes the new package and attempts to quantify its performance in a typical circuit consisting of a single-phase buck converter module for Telecom and Datacom applications. The PowerSO-8 with its assembly and manufacturing simplicity but remarkably better thermal resistance can be the right solution to the needs for improved conversion efficiency achievable with very little board modifications.
