Being the global leader in the Lawn & Garden care industry, The Scotts Company is committed to contributing to a sustainable environment. This paper discusses key initiatives successfully implemented in the area of packaging, applicator and spreader design. Most importantly, the company's future needs in terms of source reduction, reuse, recycling, dosage control and dispensing accuracy are also discussed. Such needs would be filled via internal research and external contributions from the Plastics Industry and Academia. It is believed that the use of environmental technology has the potential to "green" the industry without a substantial added cost. That, in turn, would aid the company to increase its focus on long-term strategic initiatives.
