The weathering of pigmented plastics causes loss of physical appearance and mechanical properties.This weathering is the result of small cracks forming on the surface of the plastic substrate.The effect of this surface breakdown on the composition of pigments in the chip is examined by microscopy.This paper examines the surface of the chip in detail with particular emphasis on the disposition of the pigments.A series of pigmented polypropylene chips are examined and their pigment and surface composition examined by microscopy.
