QUALITY AND PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENTS IN THE MANUFACTURE OF FOUNDRY (A356.2) ALLOY INGOTS AT ALUMINIUM BAHRAIN

摘要

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) produces more than 80,000 MT/annum of high quality re-melt ingots for the Aluminium foundry industry. This paper discusses the various technologies and practices implemented at Alba's new production facility to improve the productivity and quality of the alloys produced in order to meet the increasing quality demands of the customers. These improvements are related to pot room metal treatment, closed door furnace operation, an electromagnetic stirring system, in line degassing, filtration and rod feeder systems, ingot chain casting wheel and commissioning of a new bar casting machine in order to achieve consistently high quality product whilst maximizing productivity.
