This article describes a decentralized PI control strategy for symmetric web forming processes. When tuning each controller, process interaction must be considered. In order to simplify the tuning, it is shown how the level of interaction taken into account to calculate the controller parameters can be reduced without degrading significantly the model accuracy. Simulations illustrate that decentralized control should be preferred when controlling a process with a large condition number and input uncertainties caused by saturation.
