A high and steep slope has formed on the west end of an open pit mine in northeast of China, where the slope gets about 200 meters high, 50.5 degree on average gradient and 53 degree in partial gradient. To reclaim the remnant ore on the end side of the slope, the key factor is to ensure safety against collapse. On the basis of analyzing rocks' characteristics and joint structures of slope, the stability of the slope and blast vibration are analyzed and evaluated by limiting equilibrium method, and the possible damage model is ascertained. Based on the principle of energy-concentrated jet, shaped charge blasting is put forward and demonstrated as an effective method of reducing blast vibration against slope safety.
