Brief Overview on Fire Science and Fire-protection Engineering

摘要

Fire science and technology has made great progress with the development of science and engineering technology since the end of the nineteenth century. As a result, a rising intersectional knowledge of Fire Science and Fire-protection Engineering has formed. In order to know generally the development history of fire science and technology and to clarify the research fields of Fire Science and the knowledge framework and the main tasks of Fire Protection Engineering, a brief overview on Fire Science and Fire-protection Engineering is presented in this paper. The research fields in Fire Science encompass fire physics, fire chemistry, structural fire behavior, interaction between fire and people, fire risk analysis, fire protection design and management and so on. And fire hazard analysis and design calculations for fire protection system and fire risk analysis are the three main tasks of Fire Protection Engineering. In additional, the challenges for Fire Science and Fire-protection Engineering in the new century are discussed.
