DEMONSTRATION OF PHOTOCATALYTIC WASTE WATER DETOXIFICATION IN TEXTILE INDUSTRY

Within a German Ministry of Education and Research funded project the German Aerospace Center and its partners the companies EnviroTex GmbH, Carl Albani Gardinenfabrik GmbH & Co., and Thorey Textilveredelung GmbH developed photocatalytic water treatment for curtain production wastewater recycling up to a demonstration level. The technology is based on a photo-Fenton process. From laboratory results a 500 1 batch reactor was constructed. In on site tests it was shown that COD-concentrations in the production waste water between 1500 and 4000 ppm could be reduced with an efficiency of more than 90 % . Aliphatic hydrocarbons could be reduced to less then 20 ppm. This concentration fits the German regulations for discharging. In dyeing tests it could be shown that the water has a sufficient quality for recycling. In a demonstration plant with a capacity of 3 m~3 the whole process water of a production line could be treated in this way.
