摘要

Indigenous bacterial populations in contaminated soil can degrade a wide range of target constituents of the oily sludge disposed to the environment by oil refineries, qualifying bioremediation as a potentially useful tool in the cleansing and treatment of petroleum contaminated soils. In this work we aimed to analyse the microbial community which is the protagonist in an oily-sludge contaminated soil. More than 200 bacterial strains that can use crude oil and naphthalene as the sole carbon and energy source were isolated through enrichments from three different refinery sludge deposition sites in central Greece. Far-range distribution genes encoding for key enzymes of both aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbon degradation pathways were detected by polymerase chain reaction and DNA hybridisation. In addition, DGGE analysis of in situ microbial community structures was used to estimate population changes during bioremediation progress.
