Informatics and Society: The Case of Cyber Education in Cameroon as a Form of Computer Mediated Education

The modernisation of the system of education in Cameroon is rooted in political strategies in shaping education planning to include technology and the weight in the direction of financing by donor organs. The massive wave of change in technology is fast reshaping education and schooling. Cyber education, born of these innovations is helping to transform the nature of learning. The concept of cyber education in Cameroon is being developed and undertaken by the Ministry of National Education as a result of state spending on networking schools with Internet connectivity through use of Multimedia Resource Centres constructed in each province of Cameroon. The introduction of cyber education in Cameroon will provide the students with better access to information and sharing opportunities as well as enhanced professional development for teachers, a range of teaching strategies and access to open learning institutions authorised by the Ministry of National Education.
