The effects of new and old tapping systems as well as the different stimulating intensity and different tapping frequency on the volatile fatty acid number (VFANo.) of the latex were studied. The changes of VFANo. during storage of the field latex obtained from six tapping systems were investigated. The testing results indicate that the VFANo. of the latex obtained from different tapping systems changes greatly during certain time of storage. The VFANo. of the latex obtained from new tapping system increases more quickly. The VFANo. of the latex obtained with high stimulating intensity treatment is obviously higher than that obtained with low stimulating intensity treatment. The VFANo. of the latex obtained with high tapping frequency treatment is obviously higher than that obtained with low tapping frequency treatment. The VFANo. of the latex obtained from different tapping systems shows no significant difference between each other and is very low at the time of collection; after that, the formation of VFA varies with the ammonia content of the latex: the higher the ammonia content is, the lower the VFA in latex is.
