Load balancing a database cluster with master servers at each remote site is an ideal way of configuring a database system. It provides load balancing with fail over and uses available bandwidth through an internet connection. The ability to load balance between the local master database server and the remote databases can be controlled by appropriately configuring the load balancer's metrics for each master server link. This paper studies the setup and configuration of a database cluster and examines the appropriate metrics that identify any weaknesses when load balancing across a VPN Link. The study compares a high versus normal database load across the network.
