XML is vastly becoming the world standard format for data exchange over the web and for business applications. As with any data, this needs to be stored in a database to enable this information to be efficiently stored and accessed. Relational databases are currently the most researched, developed and most popular databases, but with relational databases being designed for SQL and relational data, relational databases need to map the XML data into the database, so will these databases be able to manage with the XML data and perform stored and query effectively. This paper will look in to the abilities of this technology to be able to stored XML effectively and the ability to query the database for XML results and compare this with a Native database designed for XML and being queried by an XML technology XQuery.
