This paper describes the art of diagnosing a turbine-cycle performance using on-line monitoring technique proprietary to Doosan for better fuel economy. Monitoring the performance of a unit in operation may be one of the critical activities for plant operators. Doosan developed an online turbine performance diagnostic system to detect the performance degradation and to ensure optimum operation for a turbine cycle throughout its service life. This system displays not only the efficiencies of equipment but also all performance parameters for an operating turbine cycle such as the steam properties of equipment using real time data collected from control systems. Further, it can automatically show the design efficiencies by performing the heat balance of a turbine cycle using only few operating data. Checking actual efficiencies against those designed, it is possible to carry out the quantitative performance analysis and to detect equipment degradation in a turbine cycle.
