The California halibut (Paralichthys californicus) is a commercially important fish in the Pacific coastal waters of California (USA) and Baja California (Mexico). Recirculation systems are a very attractive alternative for the potential culture of this species given the increased potential for temperature regulation and the increased flexibility in site selection. At UC Davis recirculation systems have been used for the culture of California halibut from hatching (Gisbert et al., 2002) through growout (Conklin et al, 2003). The systems tested range from total system volumes of approximately 250 L to about 10,000 L and the two largest systems are described here (Merino, 2004).
