The objective of this paper is to present an approximate calculation of bridges for the routing and permitting procedures of overweight vehicles. The proposed method is based on a comparison of the design load vehicle and the overweight vehicle with the aid of artificial influence lines. The main advantage of the new method is that it does not require very much information, i.e. the span of the bridge, the axle load and the axle spacing configurations. In addition, the method is fast and conservative.
