TLMIPv6: A NEXT GENERATION THREE LAYER MOBILE IPV6 MOBILITY MANAGEMENT ARCHITECTURE

IP based mobility protocols, such as Mobile IP (MIP) and TeleMIP, offer many technology independent solutions. Although these protocols offer an excellent Internet connectivity on the move, they produce high signaling overheads and handoff delays. To reduce latency and associated overhead, we earlier developed an architecture, called Three Level Mobility Model (TLMM), based on MIPv4 supporting global mobility. With the advent of MIPv6, there arises a need to rebuild TLMM in order to take advantage of the enhanced capabilities and features of MIPv6. In this paper, we present TLMIPv6, an updated version of TLMM based on MIPv6 platform, along with an appropriate mobility management scheme for the same. We then explain how TLMIPv6 improves upon its earlier version as a better model for the next generation IP- mobility management.
