46 trace elements in coastal Casuarina equisetifolia plant-soil system in 9 sampling sites in Hainan Island are analyzed by using ICP-MS. The relationship among the trace elements of the same group or same periodicity of the Periodic Table in the plant and soil are quite complicated and no consistent regulation has been found. It is found that more element combinations with high positive correlation coefficients in same periodicity than those in same group of the Periodic Table and more those in soil than in plant. However there are many element combinations in d-district with high positive correlation coefficients in plant. Markedly high positive correlation coefficients among individual rare earth elements and Y and among Zr, Nb, Cd are existed in both the plant and the soil. The dendrogram obtained by cluster analysis show that REEs have very similar occurrence and distribution in both the soil and the plant. They behave as an unusually coherent group of elements not only in geochemistry but also in biogeochemistry. The transition elements are more coherent in the plant than in the soil.
