Resource exploitation causes the necessity of recultivation of damaged areas. But traditional restoration techniques are not adequate to northern areas. It has been necessary to develop methods of restoring the destroyed lands, taking specific conditions of the North into account, During the last two decades, the Institute of Biology, Komi Science Center UrD RAS actively developed the theoretical base and practical methods of rehabilitation regarding geographical conditions and socio-economical aspects of resource use in the north of the Komi Republic. It has been based on a restoration system foreseeing reducing the initial plant succession stage with the help of intensive methods, and promoting the following self-restoration.
