This study showed that the thermal stress analysis for the stress lattice casting should use the element that is able to represent the bending deformation in principle for bending of the thin parts of the stress lattice. The thermal stress analysis successfully predicted the residual stress of the stress lattice due to the temperature difference between the thick and thin part with 11 % difference using the second order tetrahedral element. However, the result of the simulation indicated that the magnitude of the residual stress due to the temperature difference in the cross section of the thick part was the same as that attributed to temperature difference between the thick and thin parts. This result indicated that the verification of the prediction accuracy of its residual stress must be conducted before applying the FEM to the prediction of the industrial casting residual stress.
