The UK Government is working towards a target of providing 15% of UK electricity from renewable energy by 2015 with the aspiration that this will rise to 20% by 2020. A range of policy measures to support this aim have been put in place, including many of the sites currently being considered for developing renewable generation particularly wind farms. The connection of any wind farm to the grid must comply with the local Grid Code connection requirements. One of the requirements is that the wind farm must have the capabilities to operate within certain reactive power and voltage operating control range.
