Cold-formed thin-walled steel sections are usually used in planar structural systems and exposed to fire attack on one side under fire conditions. Moreover, due to their small thickness, they dissipate heat to the surrounding much more rapidly than thick hot-rolled sections. As a result, their temperature distributions are highly non-uniform under fire conditions. This paper reports the results of a numerical and experimental study of the thermal and structural performance of cold-formed thin-walled steel stud wall panels exposed to fire attack on one side, including experimental and numerical analysis of temperature distributions and a numerical study of structural behaviour. This paper also describes a design method based on Eurocode 3 Part 1.3 and compares the design predictions with numerical results.
