Quantitative evaluation of imperfections in adhesive joints remains one of the most challenging problems before the industrial implementation of nondestructive testing. Our objective is to approach the problem in a practical way through the inspection of bonds manufactured with defined imperfections. A brief introduction to ultrasonic and neutron radiography methods is given. The second part of the paper presents experimental observations of ultrasonic signals and these are compared with the results of the tomographies. An evaluation of the defect bond area with image analysis followed. The investigation included also destructive tests, ultimately aiming at a correlation with actual strength values.
