A new, patented direct AC-AC power converter using a novel circuit topology and charge allocation control methodology solves the problems of high harmonics and damaging dV/dt experienced with PWM-based variable speed drives (VSDs). This paper presents experimental results from a 25 kW, 3-phase 208 V AC-link~(TM) prototype used to drive an induction motor at varying speeds. The system exhibits dV/dt of 1-2 V/us and total harmonic distortion of 3% without costly add-on components.
