The effects of fabric parameters on sheet solids content during vacuum dewatering of low grammage sheets has been studied for 10 different forming fabrics. Caliper, void volume and air permeability that control the capacity of the fabric to enclose water within the fabric were shown to have a great impact on the dewatering of the sheet. Rewetting from fabric to sheet seemed to be an important mechanism in determining the sheet solids content.
