1. An Energy Bandwidth Study is being performed to analyze manufacturing energy use and energy saving opportunities for the food and beverage manufacturing industry, 2. Manufacturing energy data are broken down by sub-sector, product, and sub-process to identify processes and energy-saving technologies with the greatest opportunities for energy savings, 3. This type of study has not been done in the past, so data must been gathered carefully; also there is a lack of data in certain areas, 4. While more research is to be done, research to date implies that there may be more current rather than future energy savings opportunity due to the fact that there are few areas with active R&D in food and beverage, while more traditional areas for energy efficiency savings (steam systems, etc.).
