ADK Stabilizer FP-2000, A Novel Intumescent Flame Retardant for Polyolefins

ADK Stabilizer FP-2000, a new intumescent type flame retardant (FR) for polyolefins, is discussed. Performance data for polypropylene (mainly for PP copolymer) is presented as compared with other intumescent types and other generally used FRs for PP such as brominated FRs and inorganic hydrates. Effectiveness in other polyolefins such as HDPE, LDPE and EVA is also discussed. Furthermore, the influence of pigments and fillers on its performance is included. The recommended processing conditions which is important for this type of FR is also stated by co-relating the processing temperatures with physical properties and flame retardancy.
