The leach liquor produced in the processing of a low-grade molybdenite concentrate by hydrometallurgical technique using a certain proportion of HF and H_2SO_4 contains considerable quantity of copper, nickel and iron as fluorides. Attempts have been made to recover copper and nickel from sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid medium by SX technique. High separation factor of copper with respect to nickel and iron was found at 20% of LIX 622 in kerosene using the solution at pH 2.0. High stripping of copper was achieved with conc, sulphuric acid. The intermediate iron could be removed completely by chemical precipitation without interference from nickel above the pH required for extraction of copper. Further 5% Na-D2EHPA in kerosene at pH 5.0 is found to be suitable for extraction of nickel. For both Cu and Ni, increasing organic to aqueous (O/A) phase ratios give the high recovery of the metal.
