Aramid reinforced functionally graded materials for tribological applications

摘要

A unique feature of functionally graded materials (FGMs) is the possibility to tailor the material properties over the thickness of the parts to the needs of special applications. In this study it was shown that this FGM concept can readily be applied to aramid filled epoxy resin in order to create parts with a highly wear resistant surface for tribological contact and a tough core to bond the parts to a metallic substrate.
