Filler/fibre interactions in fire retarded glass-filled polyamide 6.6

The interactions between magnesium hydroxide fire retardant filler and glass fibres in polyamide 6.6 has been investigated using a range of filler/fibre ratios. Increasing the filler content resulted in greater attrition during processing, shorter fibre lengths and increased fibre pull-out. Subsequent changes in tensile and impact properties, processing variables, and fire test behaviour are reported.
