Stainless steel has traditionally been regarded as an extravagant solution in construction projects. For the past eighty years the longevity and aesthetic appeal of stainless steel has inspired architects and designers alike to use the material to create vivid and prestigious structures, though for conventional structures use has been rather limited. This paper explores the benefits of using stainless steel as a structural material with an emphasis on life-cycle cost savings, and presents a summary of a recently developed design approach that brings improved efficiency to stainless steel structural design.
