SUSTAINABILITY AND LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT, A WINNING COUPLE?

More and more awareness of companies is given to responsibility throughout the life cycle for the products they produce. Functional performance, customer satisfaction, service contracts are examples of thinking about the demands that their products need to fulfil during service life. These can all be seen as added value to the product itself. In this paper I would like to focus on a bottom up approach towards life cycle thinking from an environmental point of view Key words in this discussion are Life Cycle Management (LCM) and Sustainability How can we bring these big and not so well defined themes into the perspective of a day-to-day producer of construction products? Through an example for a large life cycle inventory (LCI) project for Western European steel construction, I would like to share some thoughts on the merits of life cycle thinking. Will you join me?
