Previous work has demonstrated the theoretical and practical value of capillary flow porometry to characterize filter media. The author as well as others have shown how porometry micron values can be related to other media properties and to filter efficiency. However, with the advent of computer technology, advanced flow measuring devices, and improved wetting fluids, the usual media characterization tests (i.e., Frazier permeability, Gurley Hill permeability, Bubble Point determination, etc.) are slowly being replaced by automated porometers. This paper will discuss one of these new porometers and will present characterization data for a wide variety of air filtration media to illustrate its value.
