Studies on Agricultural Development Model and the Key Techniques Preventing the Ecotone from Desertification

The ecotone is one of the main ecological fragile and poorest regions in China and has been an important dust source affecting Beijing and the North China. Because of the different conditions, the model and techniques could not be simply copied from other countries and domestic regions. To the north of Yinshan Mountain, the Wuchuan Experimental Station of Dryland Farming locates the middle of the ecotone. Based on the principles of the systematic science and ecological-economic theory, agricultural and husbandry has been restructured and the resources allocation has been optimized so as to meet the economical and ecological environment. Three key techniques countering water erosion, wind erosion and spring drought were developed and have been the core of the regional adaptive technical system of dryland farming: contour field, intercropping strips and seeding with micro-irrigation. Combining with the technique of vegetation recovery, the agricultural developmental model preventing the ecotone from desertification has been built.
