DTLR/IACS GREEN SEA LOADING RESEARCH ON BULK CARRIERS

This paper explains the background to programme of collaboration between DTLR and IACS to investigate bulk carrier wave loading at MARIN, the Netherlands. Starting with the RFI Recommendations, it considers the impact of the rapidly developing methodology on the seakeeping model testing requirements agreed between DLTR and IACS, and the influence of the research presented to the RFI. The issues of hatch cover design and fore end protection were explored at the RFI, as were the related matters of meteorology, wave conditions, and the statistical analysis. This paper describes how these issues identified the need for the further model-testing programme, and how they framed the specification for these tests.
