A pre-cast arch culvert is constructed by the backfilling method. The induced load under the culvert footing could cause the unbalanced settlement and lead to lining failure. Therefore, the study on the earth pressure is necessary for the designing of the concrete segments. In order to investigate the mechanical behavior of the pre-cast arch culvert and the reduction of load acting on the culvert by the soft material, the two-dimensional model tests are carried out. By varying arrangements of the soft material, the effectiveness of it to reduce acting load on the culvert is investigated.
