Networked synthetic helicopter crew and collective operational mission training in a dynamic context

The traditional 'bottom up' approach to synthetic rotary wing flight training has achieved high standards at the pilot and crew levels. However, it falls well short of producing advanced collective and situational skills. These operational skills at the tactical and, to some extent at least, the theatre level, are essential to the successful conduct of operations. Although it is currently possible, with networked simulation and computer-generated effects, to train for multi-platform operations in dynamic and interactive ground/air scenarios, the top-down strategy to identify appropriate training objectives at these levels is not yet in place.
