The last few years have seen some of the greatest changes to fall protection equipment that this industry has ever experienced. This has come about as a result of the introduction of AS/NZS 1891-1 and the need to develop comfortable equipment that an operator can wear in a wide variety of working environments. The modern linesman must be equipped to safely work on top of a pole, from an Elevated Work Platform (EWP), on a tower or even in a 'confined space'. As with any need that is created in a field of endeavour manufactures will develop products to answer that need. The first of theses needs was a full harness designed to provide support for a linesman working in the traditional position, secured with a pole strap. This harness also had to provide him with fall protection when he was called upon to operate an EWP. This without the employer having to make a further investment in specialised equipment for each type of work the employee was called upon to carryout. An essential part of this development process was to involve the actual operators who would be using the harnesses. This direct feedback enabled us to manufacture a better product, it also went a long way to creating a high level of grass roots acceptance when the products were introduced.
