The process of localized corrosion of aluminum alloy in chloride solution is not only associated with its composition, structure, defects and surface conditions, but also related closely to various environmental factors. The distributions of chloride ion concentration and pH at the interface of metal/solution are among the most important environmental determinants to the initiation and development of localized corrosion. In order to further understand the mechanism of initiation, inhibition and development of localized corrosion for Al alloy in Cl~- solution, it is necessary to develop various scanning electrochemical probes to in situ image the chemical environments in micro area during the process of localized corrosion. Scanning electrochemical probes including scanning micro reference electrode, scanning micro Cl- probe and scanning micro pH probe were developed, combining with SEM, EIS and XPS, to study the process of localized corrosion of Al 2024 in Cl- solution in this work.
